CURRENT PROJECT<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am working currently in the project \u201cThe Revolution That Did Not Happen Rebellion and Reaction in the Post-Imperial Borderlands 1905-1921\u201d led by Dr Wiktor Marzec. My task is (a) to invent computational methods to analyse political discourses in Finnish and Polish sources, and (b) to be the domain expert of Finnish history when we compare the different political trajectories in the Western borderlands of the Russian Empire in the early twentieth century.<\/p>\n

RESEARCH INTERESTS <\/strong><\/p>\n

My long-term research interests can be divided roughly into three categories. First, methodologically I want to find novel ways of extracting useful information from machine-readable historical sources. Second, in terms of historical sources, I want to promote \u2018balanced\u2019 approaches to digitisation of the past: if we concentrate solely on printed materials (books, newspapers, reports etc.), we may undervalue the agency of the common people who never published their ideas in the print. Third, in the theoretical domain, I try to conceptualize how the relation between the breadth and depth of historical arguments will be affected by the current \u2018digital turn\u2019.<\/p>\n
